Spring Break

LSM-USA and the ELCA are pleased to announce the launch of the 2010 Journeys for Youth and Young Adults Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Catalog. We hope you find the catalog helpful in planning your 2010 spring break.

Journeys for Youth and Young Adults (www.elca.org/journeys) is a permanent ELCA web database and is available year round. Listings will be routinely updated for accuracy and as new opportunities become available. The database features opportunities across the country available for multiple spring break weeks and multiple campuses.

The ASB addition to Journeys for Youth and Young Adults marks a change in the way we all participate in ASBs. Please work with Journeys organizations directly to plan your spring break. Mike Nevergall and Katy Resop are still happy to assist your planning in whatever ways we can, especially by connecting you to opportunities and organizations and engaging with you in service-learning.

New this year is also an effort to strengthen the ministry of Alternative Spring Breaks through the Lutheran Student Movement Service-Learning Institute. Five $1500 grants are available to campuses willing to commit to training in the principles and pedagogy of service-learning. Please visit the LSM Service-Learning Institute (link to page).Applications are due Friday, October 30.

ELCA Alternative Spring Breaks is also providing an online network and resource site at alternativespringbreak.ning.com.  We invite both campus ministry staff and  students to join the network to communicate with each other, engage in reflection and learning, and connect with host sites who are also invited to join the site. This site is a social media network and therefore welcomes your contributions (videos, photos, ideas, blogs, discussions, etc). Whether you will be participating in an ELCA-specific ASB or not, you are welcome to join the conversation!

We invite your feedback as we strive to better serve your ministry’s needs. Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns!

Blessings,
Katy Resop & Mike Nevergall
