The Social and Service Overnight curriculum includes the cover page, sample schedule, and Friday night small and large group devotion/worship/Bible study. The event itself is scheduled as a Friday/Saturday event which works well in an urban context.

Friday night is spent building connections and friendships in the group, hanging out in the city and church where the event takes place. Also, Friday night is a time for reflection upon the theme, worship, and small group Bible study and discussion. Essentially, Friday night is a social lock-in, and Saturday is spent focused on service.

There can either be one large service project or a variety of small ones, depending on the needs of the community and the size of your group. The group returns from the project in the late afternoon and gathers for a closing worship before heading home.

These events are great because participants get to know each other very well, have a lot of fun, experience an urban community, and do some really serious service work. In addition, it often brings out people who would not otherwise come to a retreat because this event is shorter and costs far less ($10 a piece easily covers food and leaves plenty of money left over to be donated or added to the region's account).
