A Resolution to Assist in Planning Local and Regional LSM-USA Retreats

Purpose:           To support local and regional groups and leaders of the Lutheran Student Movement in the United States of America (LSM-USA) in their planning for retreats or other extended events by making a collection of event curriculum, devotions, Bible studies, etc. developed by LSM-USA members available to everyone.

Whereas,          well-developed and planned themes, event curriculum, Bible studies, devotions, and worship time are at the core of many local and regional LSM-USA retreats or other activities, to a large part determining the overall quality of the event and the experience of each participant;

Whereas,          interesting and imaginative themes and well-planned curricula require large amounts of time and energy to develop, often representing the bulk of the time spent planning for an event, only to be put aside afterwards instead of being used at other LSM-USA events;

Whereas,          part of the purpose of LSM-USA is to “provide a well-developed program of study, assembly, discussion and action, which program shall provide for the expression of fellowship in Christ and of the social and intellectual concerns of campuses, of communities and of the entire world;”[1]

Whereas,          the ability to store and share past retreat themes and curricula, Bible studies, and worship so that all local and regional LSM-USA leaders can access and use them in planning for their own events would benefit everyone, those using the resources and those who developed them and see them being used, supporting the ministry of LSM-USA at all levels;

Therefore be it resolved that:

                        1. A collection of event curricula, themes, devotions, worship services, and Bible studies be organized by the LSM-USA intern and be maintained online by the national webmaster,

                        2. Members and leaders of LSM-USA, particularly at the regional and local level, are encouraged to share their God-given talents and inspiration with each other by submitting their event themes, curricula, Bible studies, devotions, and worship services to the LSM-USA intern to be collected, sorted, saved on the office computer, and then sent to the national webmaster for posting,

                        3. Access to the collection will be free, authors agreeing to share their work in exchange for their name credited as the author on any printed or digital copies used during a specific event, and the person or group using the resources must also e-mail the LSM-USA intern and let him or her know about the use,

4. Authors have a right to withdraw any of their submissions at any point by contacting the LSM-USA intern.
