A Resolution to restructure and formalize the National Service Project of LSM-USA

Purpose:           To address the calendar implications of the National Service Project and to

                        Make the experience more focused and effective.

Whereas,         the LSM-USA tries to “enable and enlighten participation of believers in the serving ministry of Christ in the world;”[1]

Whereas,         the LSM-USA organizes a National Service Project designed to focus the energy, attention, and service activities of the LSM-USA on a particular theme;

Whereas,         the calendar-year election cycle and high turnover rate among LSM-USA leadership does not allow for the most consistent and effective administration of the National Service Project;

Therefore be it resolved that:

                        1. The National Council of LSM-USA begin planning for the National Service Project immediately following the National Gathering, under the direction of the newly elected Secretary for International and Multicultural Concerns (SIMC), and will include theme identification, the development of a resource guide with Bible studies, information, relevant organizations, and service project recommendations, which should be posted on the website,

                        2. The National Service Project will be launched at the beginning of the fall semester following the previous year’s election, and will last until the end of the spring semester, during the term of the next National Council,

                        3. The International, Multicultural, and Ecumenical Relations Committee consider the needs of the host location of the National Gathering when deciding on a National Service Project theme.

                        4. It is recommended that the National Service Project be implemented at the local and regional level by organizing workshops, speakers at retreats, and service projects, especially at regional gatherings,

                        5. It is further recommended that the National Service Project be implemented at the national level through speakers and workshops at the National Gathering and community service opportunities during and around the National Gathering.
