The Linda Haley Resolution Addressing Human Problems

 

WHEREAS the LSM-USA has, by the 1992-1993 National Convention, focused on meeting human needs, and,

 

WHEREAS it is the stated purpose of LSM-USA to provide a well-developed program of. .. action, which shall provide for the expression of fellowship in Christ and of the social and intellectual concerns of campuses, of communities and of the entire world, (LSM-USA Constitution Article II ID),

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED on this day, the 1st of January, 1994 that the regions of LSM-USA actively support, through volunteerism, public support, and appeals to national representatives in Congress, the following seven propositions (applicable to their regions) which will achieve the goals of reducing the number of poor families with more children than their financial means allow, increasing the health and education (with an emphasis in sexual and self-esteem education) of all children, and providing job skills, as well as increasing these workers' ability to move to different areas to find jobs.

 

THE SEVEN PROPOSITIONS

 

1. The installation of Project HEAD START programs in all elementary schools, as well as an increase in the federal amounts put into this program.

 

2. The installation of sexual education courses which teach the physical and emotional facts of sexual relationships and the responsibilities involved with parenting into all High Schools also providing avenues for parental input and awareness of the sexual education curriculum.

 

3. The increase of federal and state funding for family planning clinics to help provide the safest options possible.

 

4. The increase of donations and state funding to summer camp programs which are run for all children in cities across America, as well as any such programs which would provide an equal benefit to needy children.

 

5. The increase of federal funds supporting job re-training programs sponsored by cooperations, universities, or any other group.

 

6. To help those parents who are unemployed to find day care and other services while looking for employment and after employment has been obtained.

 

7. That state, local communities, churches, and individuals provide some type of after-school and summer activities to deter young people from gangs and crime.
