1993 Approved Legislation #3 (93-3)
A Resolution on the Financial Support of Campus Ministry
WHEREAS we are the students and alumni of Lutheran Campus Ministry; and
WHEREAS we are members and leaders of Lutheran congregations, and will serve as the missionaries, lay ministers, and pastors of the church; and
WHEREAS we will also serve as leaders in society in ways which will further the mission of the church; and
WHEREAS we believe that Lutheran Campus Ministry and particularly its ministry with students ought to be among the highest priorities of the church; and
WHEREAS the National Lutheran Churches have participated in making financial cutbacks to Lutheran Campus Ministry since 1988, thereby diminishing its ministry to and with young adults and endangering a whole generation of church leadership,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That LSM-USA will voice concern about these cutbacks; and
2. That LSM-USA will unite and share ideas about how to handle such cutbacks; and 3. That LSM-USA will unite to help avoid any future cutbacks; and 4. That LSM-USA will stand united as future leaders of the church; and THEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
1. That LSM-USA students will join in writing letters to and make contact with the Bishop of the ELCA, the President of LCMS and other key leaders requesting that Campus Ministry be moved higher on the priority ranking to receive funding and that these letters, to be most effective, should be written no later than January 31, 1994; and
2. That LSM-USA actively lobby for funding of Lutheran Campus Ministry at the local, synodical, regional, and national levels to encourage the inclusion of Lutheran Campus Ministry in estate planning and stewardship drives at local congregations.
3. That every individual make a personal commitment to work for advocacy in their home congregation by increasing visibility and understanding of Campus Ministry and what it does.
4. That LSM-USA students voice their thanks for the support that the church has traditionally shown in the past for ministry and outreach on the college campuses.
