1991 Approved Resolution #1 (91-1)
Resolution on Dialogue between
Christians, Jews and Muslims
WHEREAS, Christians and Jews have over the years carried on helpful dialogues and interfaith communication; and
WHEREAS, Christians have not communicated as well with people of the Islamic faith; and
WHEREAS, our lack of knowledge of Islam contributes to the stereo-typing of Muslims and sometimes distorts our understanding of the complicated situation in the Middle East; and
WHEREAS, each faith's lack of knowledge about the other Abrahamic religions contributes to the misunderstandings between them.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that LSM-USA:
1. Encourage local LSM chapters to initiate, together with other Christian student groups, interfaith dialogues for the purpose of mutual listening and understanding among Christians, Jews and Muslims, respecting and affirming the beliefs of all those involved; and
2. Request all Lutheran church bodies to initiate such religious dialogues at every level of the church's life.
