1990 Approved Resolution #3 (90-3)

 

RESOLUTION ON RECYCLING ALUMINUM

 

WHEREAS, we are called through our faith to care for the Earth that God created for us; and

 

WHEREAS, as Christians it is our responsibility to further encourage awareness in ourselves and in others the need to recycle aluminum; and

 

WHEREAS, currently three million, nine hundred and forty-four thousand tons of aluminum per year is not recycled'; and

 

WHEREAS, were recycling to be instituted on a large scale basis, the reduction of landfill area and the conservation of energy would benefit everyone; and

 

WHEREAS, it is our responsibility to hinder the deterioration of God's creation, Earth; and

 

WHEREAS, realizing that the lack of recycling of aluminum is a problem and realizing that LSM members have the ability to begin and maintain recycling programs in their campus ministry centers, churches, and campuses;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that all LSM members should support all government, private, and local industries' efforts to recycle aluminum products; and

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that all members of LSM-USA make personal commitments to recycling aluminum by:

 

1. encouraging themselves and others to place aluminum products in common containers; and

 

2. encouraging and supporting businesses who recycle aluminum and use recycled products; and

 

3. encouraging and abiding by the effort to reduce the use of aluminum products in the first place, by using reusable containers; and

 

4. having members of LSM-USA provide well-marked recycling receptacles at LSM local, sub­regional or state, regional, and national events, provide maintenance of those containers in accordance with the facility's specifications to eliminate contamination and health safety problems and provide for the collection and transportation of the cans (steel, bi-metal, aluminum) to a recycling center.
