1990 Approved Resolution #1 (90-1)

 

RESOLUTION FOR REVIEW AND ANALYSIS OF LEGISLATION AND LEGISLATIVE PROCESSES

 

WHEREAS, we, as member of the Lutheran Student Movement in the United States of America, gather together at each annual conference as persons of diverse backgrounds who celebrate a common unity as members of the body of Christ Jesus; and

 

WHEREAS, the purposes of the Legislative Assembly are for members to address concerns "of campuses, of communities, and of the entire world"', to critically discuss and analyze these concerns, to affirm common positions and actions resulting from such discussion, and to support such affirmed positions and actions through communication and personal covenant; and

 

WHEREAS, individual members or groups of members attending the annual conference represent other members from their respective academic institutions, and must consider such representation when evaluating and voting on each piece of legislation; and

 

WHEREAS, legislation affirmed by the Assembly "is an active response to our growing understanding of what it means to be God's people in today's world"2,

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that at all annual conferences of the Lutheran Student Movement in the USA:

 

1. All regions of LSM-USA and their members, as time allows, fully review and

discuss, during the regional caucuses, the procedures of the Legislative Assembly (i.e., Robert's Rules of Order); and

 

2. All regions of lSM-USA and their members, as time allows, fully review and discuss, during the regional caucuses, each piece of approved legislation prior to its presentation to the Assembly; and

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that members of the Lutheran Student Movement in the USA, as both individuals and an assembly:

 

1. Examine, in the context of being members of the body of Christ Jesus, the issues, ideas, and actions expressed within each piece of legislation; and

 

2. Make a covenant to continue, within the individual's Christian beliefs, to adopt and support. on a daily basis in thought, word, and act, those affirmed pieces of legislation; and

 

3. Communicate to other members of LSM-USA the positions and actions contained in those affirmed pieces of legislation.
