1988-9 Resolution Regarding the Unity of Lutheran Students

LSM-USA, “has historically been an inter-Lutheran organization extending across

synodical lines and encouraging the reaffirming fellowship between members of all Lutheran synods;”1 and, “one of the purposes of LSM-USA is to promote Lutheran unity in every possible way.”2

WHEREAS, LSM-USA has fallen short of this vision by not meeting the needs of

existing and potential LSM members to feel accepted and included in the LSM community;

THEREFORE, LSM-USA resolves to “tear down the walls” of exclusivity within itself,

refocusing on the needs of the Lutheran Student body as a whole; and

THEREFORE, LSM resolves to conduct a gathering within the next four years to address

the issue of unity among Lutheran students.  One possibility would be the ecumenical gathering to be held December 28, 1990-January 1, 1991; and

THEREFORE, LSM-USA resolves that in the interim LSM-USA conduct workshops on

this issue at all National Gatherings.
