86-H                           Study/Action Project on Inclusive Language

 

WHEREAS “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for we are all on in Christ Jesus,” and

 

WHEREAS Christian women and men are called to bear witness to this vision of inclusiveness, and

 

WHEREAS many Christians fell excluded by the use of predominantly masculine language and imagery in worship, and

 

WHEREAS the issues of inclusive language is worship are of growing concern within the church, and

 

WHEREAS in the past legislation LSM-USA has urged the use of inclusive language including the creation and use of Oremus II, and

 

WHEREAS for several years the use of inclusive language has been of special concern to member of LSM-USA, particularly the Lutheran Episcopal Ministry at MIT,

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT LSM-USA commission the preparation of study/action packet in 1986/1987 by the Lutheran-Episcopal Ministry at MIT on inclusive language in worship.
