(85-8) ENDORSEMENT OF THE RESOLUTIONS OF THE WORKING GROUP

ON JUSTICE AGENDAS AND THE “NEW” LUTHERAN CHURCH

 

The Working Group for Justice Agendas in the “New” Lutheran Church (JNLC) is a national coalitional of individuals, congregations and organizations who are working together so that justice will be more central within the “new” Lutheran Church.  JNLC came into being in May, 1984.  They are a broadly-based coalition representing a broad spectrum of nearly all the justice issues and concerns within the church. (1)

 

WHEREAS, the JNLC is an organization which is working “to do justice” as God calls us to do (2), and

WHEREAS, the JNLC is working towards creating a dialogue with the Commission for a New Lutheran Church (CNLC) about how to make justice more central to our church’s theology, structure, policies and practices, and

WHEREAS, 8 American Lutheran Church (ALC) Districts and 17 Lutheran Church in America (LCA) Synods have endorsed some or all of the resolutions of the JNLC, and

WHEREAS, a purpose of LSM-USA is to encourage active participation in the life and mission of the Lutheran Church (3).

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT we endorse the following resolution of the JNLC:

*        Justice Commitment

*        Justice for People of Color/People Whose Primary Language is other than English

*        Justice for Women

*        Justice for Lesbian and Gay People

*        Justice for Disabled People

*        A Just Foreign Policy/A Peaceful World

*        Justice in Urban Setting

*        Justice in Rural Settings

*        Economic Justice

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Secretary of LSM-USA send in our endorsement by September 23, 1985 to each CNLC member before their next meeting, and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT the Secretary of the LSM-USA write a letter to the JNLC affirming the work that they are doing.
