(85-2)        AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE IV, SECTION C, OF THE LSM-USA

BYLAWS CONCERNING THE SECRETARY FOR INTERNATIONAL CONCERNS

WHEREAS, the National Council needs some flexibility in determining the status of its advisors, and

WHEREAS, the International and Ecumenical Relations Committee of the National Council is changing its structure, and

WHEREAS, the National Council voted to restructure the function of the Secretary for International Concerns and the Secretary for Ecumenical Concerns, and

WHEREAS, the International and Ecumenical Relations Committee has voted to create a single new position to replace the Secretary for International Concerns and the Secretary for Ecumenical Concerns,

HOWEVER, since the international and ecumenical concerns are receiving increased attention among the world’s Christian communities, and since this increased attention serves only to augment the already multitudinous duties of the present Secretaries for International and Ecumenical Concerns, and since the needs of the Lutheran Student Movement-USA would be better served by two positions covering international and ecumenical affairs,

BE IT RESOLVED THAT Article IV, Section C of the LSM-USA Bylaws now read:
“Non-voting members of the Council shall include advisors, staff of the LSM-USA, and any persons whom the Council of the Legislative shall so designate.”

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the 1985 LSM National Assembly recommends to the National Council that it retain the present status of the positions of SIC and SEC carefully assessing LSM-USA’s financial ability to continue support for tow such positions.
