RESOLUTION                                                   84-4

 

RECOGNITION OF GILBERT E. DOAN, JR.

 

WHEREAS the Rev. Dr. Gilbert E. Doan, Jr. was active as a student in campus ministry, and

 

WHEREAS he was the “Thomas Jefferson” of the Lutheran Student Movement-USA, drafting the original constitution and revising it three years later, and

 

WHEREAS he gave a lot of time and energy to student as friend, pastor and counselor, and

 

WHEREAS he attended all LSM-USA assemblies, preaching at many; serving as both national advisor to the first several national councils and regional advisor to the Mid-Atlantic Region; and was regional director of the Northeastern Region of National Lutheran Campus Ministry (NLCM) for 25 years, and

 

WHEREAS he was concerned with LSM-USA’s ecumenical role in other movement and promoted faithfulness to Lutheran beliefs so as not to let LSM-USA become an entirely social organization, and

 

WHEREAS he was one of the first Honorary Lifetime Members of LSM-USA, and

 

WHEREAS he “called people to responsibility and faithfulness with integrity”, and

 

WHEREAS he has recently moved from campus ministry to a parish in Philadelphia,

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Lutheran Student Movement-USA, in a sprit of love appreciation for all his support over the years, honor Gilbert E. Doan, Jr. and extend to him our sincere thanks, and

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT the president of LSM-USA send a letter of appreciation to him, along with a copy of this resolution.

SUMMARY:  In light of his support and concern of LSM-USA through the years, and because of his recent move from campus to parish ministry, LSM-USA wants to honor in some way, in addition to Honorary Lifetime membership, the Rev. Dr. Gilbert E. Doan, Jr.
