NATIONAL ANTI-KLAN RESOLUTION
The rise of racist violence across the United States of America, and the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan in recent years, are alarming developments which pollute the atmosphere of interracial relations and constitute a national emergency. This emergency is recognized by too few individuals living in the United States because of the lack of reliable information and/or the predominance of media misperception and misinformation. The lack of responsible, sensitive and insightful information concerning this expanding dilemma is conspicuously prevalent on United States College and University campuses and even within campus Christian communities.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Lutheran Student Movement-USA adopt an affirmative policy of activating students to organize to stop this racist violence by non-violent means, and co-operate with other groups which condemn racism at the national, state and local levels to curtail racist hostilities; and
FURTHERMORE, be it resolved that the National Council incorporate an educational program on the issue of racist violence as part of its ongoing program for the next year; and
FURTHERMORE, be it resolved that the Lutheran Student Movement-USA affiliate with the National Anti-Klan Network, based in Atlanta, Georgia, thus joining the efforts of over 60 national organizations to halt the growth of the Ku Klux Klan by non-violent methods, and eradicate the racism which gives rise to the Klan.
