FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP RESOLUTION
Lutheran Student Movement is struggling financially. For years, assemblies have passed budgets with income goals that have not been met. All forms of student ministries are suffering likewise. In some cases ministries do not have money to operate, in other cases they expend so much energy in raising funds to survive that they have little money to share. But merchants of records, tapes, movies, clothes, alcohol, food, etc., do no share that sentiment. For them, students are a billion dollar industry. It is the aim of this resolution to broaden our awareness of this problem and call for increased student support of these ministries.
WHEREAS: We, as God’s people, recognize that all we have is from God our creator; and
WHREAS: We have a responsibility to make wise use of those gifts; and
WHEREAS: We also have a responsibility to support the ministries of God’s word and grace; and
WHEREAS: We grow as Christians through our financial stewardship;
THEREFORE, Be it resolved that we commit all affiliated groups of LSM-USA to make a pledge to that body’s general fund by October 1, 1983, and to uphold that pledge by December 1, 1983.
Be it further resolved that we commit ongoing financial support to campus ministry and LSM.
Be it further resolved that we commit ourselves to work with those around us to raise awareness of this issue and encourage increased support of the work of God.
SUMMARY
This resolution is intended to raise our awareness of the financial plight of LSM and all other forms of student ministries. It calls us to remember our responsibility of financial stewardship and to increase our commitment to the financial support of student ministries
