SUPPORTING AND CO-SPONSORING OF BILLS HR4583 AND S1675 TITLE V
WHEREAS: The United States, by budgetary action, plans to spend $9.4 billion on foreign aid in 1982, and
WHEREAS: $2.9 billion is broken up into two categories: $1.4 billion marked for U.S. development aid which UNICEF and other organizations use, and the remaining $1.5 billion for food aid, and
WHEREAS: The Senate and House have before them bills (HR4588 and S1675) that will direct 50% of the $1.4 billion developmental aid to the “absolutely poor,” as defined by the World Bank, in the forms of food, storage facilities and transportation, as well as directing them to confirm that the food is delivered to the proper recipients,
THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT
We, as the Lutheran Student Movement, express, in the form of individual contracts with our congress-people, our support of these bills –No. HR 4588 in the House, and S1675 TITLE V in the Senate –as well as request that they co-sponsor said bills, and
Those legislators that have supported there bills be acknowledged with thanks by the individual members of the Lutheran Student Movement-USA, and
Since the need for this action is so critical among the world’s hungry and in light of possible consideration of these bills by both Houses of Congress in September, LSM-USA members take the described action within the next 30 days.
