81-12 RESOLUTION ON REAGAN ADMINISTRATION’S BUDGET CUTS OF SOCIAL PROGRAMS

Background

The Reagan Administration’s 1982 budget cuts have passed and now are part of the future. These budget cuts are for economic reasons. However, the human sacrifice for this economic recovery program has been placed on the back of those who can least bear the burden. The burden is being placed on people who are affected by the cuts in social programs. These programs include health services, youth employment and legal aid, to mention a few.

Non-profit organizations aimed at helping these people will now be left with little or no funding resources. Therefore, the need of outside funding and/or human resources will be necessary.

Therefore BE IT RESOLVED

1.         that is legislative assembly of the Lutheran Student Movement-USA go on record as being in opposition to budge cuts which adversely affect the needy.

  1. that local campus ministries be urged to work within our communities to support those non-profit organizations whose goals are aimed at helping those in need of their assistance by contributions, donations of time, letter-writing campaigns, and any other from of assistance.
