81-3    RESOLUTION ON THE

PRE-ASSEMBLY YOUTH GATHERING OF LWF

Background

A world assembly of the Lutheran World Federation is held every seven years. It is during these assemblies that the direction and focus of LWF are set for the following years. In past assemblies, youth participation has varied with the amount of prior knowledge of LWF the youth participants have had. The International Youth Consultation felt it necessary that time be designated prior to the assembly to prepare youth delegates and observers for meaningful participation at the Assembly. The participants at the Consultation also felt that it was necessary to provide an opportunity to share youth concerns and problems from various contexts. It was therefore proposed to have a six-day pre-assembly youth meeting in Budapest, Hungary in 1984. Due to the location of upcoming assembly in Budapest, Hungary it was felt especially important to involve eastern European youth.

Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED

1. that this assembly of the Lutheran Student Movement-USA support the proposal for a pre-assembly youth meeting to be held in Budapest, Hungary so stated in that International Youth Consultation report; and

2. that this assembly especially urge acceptance of IYC’s recommendation that 25% of the official delegates to the assembly be youth.
