81-1 RESOLUTION TO EXTEND THE TIME LIMIT OF THE ERA
Background
At the Wittenberg Assembly in 1978, Resolution 78-9 was passed. The resolution deals with the extension for the time limit of the ERA ratification. This resolution states in the 6th clause: “That LSM-USA shall direct its national council and national conference planning group not to schedule national conferences in those states which have not ratified the ERA.” This resolution presently has no specified time limit and the national council and national assembly planning committee are bound to it indefinitely. As the resolution currently stands, LSM-USA can never hold a national assembly in a state which has not ratified the ERA.
Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED
1. that LSM-USA upholds its original position on the ERA and until the expiration of the ratification date, LSM-USA will continue to work for its ratification in those states that have not ratified it, as stated in Resolution 78-9.
2. that LSM-USA recognizes that as of June 30, 1982, when the ERA time limit expires, the issue becomes moot and declares the action taken in Resolution 78-9 therefore inapplicable.
