80-3     RESOLUTION ON LUTHERAN UNITY

BACKGROUND

LSM-USA has continually taken stands for both Lutheran and ecumenical unity in its existence and in its actions.

            Resolutions include:

                        75:4 The Lutheran Hymnal

76:4 That They May Be One

                        76:10 Lutheran Unity

                        77:1 Inter Lutheran Fellowship

In the spirit of unity, the AELC, ALC and the LCA are considering various forms of merger.  This merger would involve a majority of the LSM-USA constituency.

The Committee on Lutheran Unity has prepared a survey to gather opinions from all members both lay and clergy.  This study is available for each pastor or national church office.

RESOLVED:

1.   The Assembly encourages LSM-USA groups to acquire and study the material prepared by the Committee on Lutheran Unity (CLU), and to participate in its survey to assist in the merger discussion during the next two years.

2.   LSM-USA encourages the Committee on Lutheran Unity to continue its efforts to unify all our Lutheran brothers and sisters.
