79-7     RESOLUTION ON MINORITY AND OVERSEAS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP   FUND

Background

For the past three years, LSM-USA National Assemblies have been enhanced by the participation of overseas and minority students.  These people have always contributed a unique perspective by sharing with us their experiences and friendship.  Through them and with them we have been able to learn and grow in the fellowship of the global Christian community.

Resolved

            1)  That LSM-USA gratefully acknowledge the past support and aid from the Lutheran Church in America, the American Lutheran Church, and Lutheran World Ministries for their generous contributions to the Fund; and direct the LSM-USA president to send letters of thanks and appreciation to the president and appropriate division directors of each of these church bodies or agency.

            2)  That LSM-USA set for itself the goal of raising $2000.  This commitment by the members of LSM-USA will be reinforced by a letter following this National Assembly, sent out by the National Council.

            3)  The celebration of All Saints Day in November, 1979, and *Ash Wednesday in February, 1980, be designated as days for LSM-USA local groups to take an offering specifically dedicated to the Scholarship Fund.  These offerings will be forwarded to the national office and placed into the special Scholarship Fund described here.

*It has been noted that LSM-USA has previously committed itself to a World Hunger Fast on All Saints Day.  It has therefore been recommended by the executive committee that if local groups or individuals set aside money on this day for world hunger, that another date be designated for the scholarship fund.
