78-4      Resolution on Amnesty International

Background

Human rights and free expression of beliefs are intertwined with the Christian message and its value.  The preservation of those rights requires the vigilance of all those who call themselves Christian.  It was the preservation of those rights, which brought about the birth of our country and the world community looks to the Christian community to lead the struggle to protect human rights across the world.

Amnesty International, a Nobel Prize-winning organization for peace, advocates the rights of persons (world-wide) through the adoption of prisoners of conscience who have been imprisoned for the free expression of their beliefs.  Many of those imprisoned are Christian students fighting the injustice of their respective governments.
