78-2Resolution on Minority and Overseas Student Scholarship Fund

Background

Those of us who had the opportunity to participate in the community of the previous two National Conferences recognize and appreciate the contribution made to those gatherings by the presence of overseas and minority students.   These students have added a unique dimension to the LSM-USA conference by sharing experiences, which help us to gain and international perspective of the Gospel.  Generous contributions by the Lutheran Church in America and the American Lutheran Church enable LSM-USA to begin a scholarship fund to bring overseas and minority students to our conferences.

Resolved

1)      That with thanks, LSM-USA acknowledge the generous contributions from the American Luther Church and the Lutheran Church in America which facilitated this mutual growth and directs the president to send a letter of appreciation and thanks to the president of these church bodies and the appropriate division directors.

2)      That LSM-USA sets for itself the goal of raising $2,000. Toward the continuation of this scholarship fund.  This commitment by the members of LSM-USA will be reinforced by a letter following this National Conference, sent out by Moorhead State University.

3)      That the November, 1978 celebration, All Saint’s Day, is designated as the day for local LSM groups to take an offering specifically for the National office and set aside for the Overseas and Minority Student Scholarship Fund.
