VIII YOUTH AND STUDENTS IN THE LIFE OF LUTHERAN CHURCHES

 

 

            Preamble:

 

WHEREAS – Mission is the calling of the whole body of Christ and of every Christian,

baptism is each believer’s ordination for witness and service. Therefore the very young and the very old, the weak, the poor and the uneducated should share the gift of new life

 

-   Youth can be seen as a creative group in both the struggle of the Church of Christ and in the “New Reformation” in our worship

 

-   Attention has been drawn to the question of discrimination with respect to sex, race, and age

 

-   It has been recommended that the LWF take up the global challenge of the alienation of youth from the church and from each other and seek to involve youth fully in the work of the church

 

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE ASSEMBLY

 

-   urge the member churches to evaluate seriously youth involvement in all aspects of the life of their churches

 

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE ASSEMBLY REQUEST THE LWF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

-   to consider establishing a Youth Desk with a Youth Advisory Committee by 1978

 

-   to identify the following as being among the tasks of the Youth Desk:

a)                  to integrate youth in the work of the LWF

b)                  to facilitate within two years international and/or regional consultations which would be part of the process of identifying and meeting the needs of youth and sharing experiences

c)                  to assist in developing youth leadership training programmes as requested by the churches

d)                  to build a communication network among youth and initiate exchange programmes.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE ASSEMBLY REFER TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR CONSIDERATION AS IT PREPARES FOR THE NEXT ASSEMBLY:

 

-         that youth delegates and stewards be selected in consultation with youth constituencies

 

-         that youth delegates and stewards come from all regions including Eastern Europe

 

-         that a youth gathering be held immediately prior to that Assembly.
