77-5     Resolution on the History of Lutheran Student Movements in the USA

Background

In light of the significant contributions from student groups of the Lutheran Church, a history of Lutheran student movements should be made. The rich history of the movement needs to be set down so that it is not lost to the future generations. Many charter members are available to give first hand accounts of events. Other resources are available as well, predating the founding of International Gamma Delta and the Lutheran Student Association of America.

Be It Therefore Resolved That

The National Council of LSM-USA set up a committee, chaired by K. Robert Schmitt, to find financial aid and support, and a person to co-ordinate the production of a history of the Lutheran student movements, to be made available on the occasion of the 10 year anniversary of LSM-USA.

Actions Taken

+          Several letters have been written concerning this resolution and further actions are planned in 1978-79 as LSM-USA approaches its anniversary year.

+          Julie Grothe, LSM-USA staffperson, is compiling a booklet of the history and theories behind a national Lutheran student movement. This booklet will be available for purchase at the 1978 national conference.
