FARM LABOR RELATIONS
WHEREAS in a society such as ours people must not be denied their basic freedom of choice of employment, employers, and conditions surrounding said employment; and
WHEREAS in the past, certain labor organizations have denied their members these basic rights, thus resulting in numerous violent :events such as vandalism, physical assault, and even loss of life; and
WHEREAS in the past, certain farm owners, growers, producers, packers, and shippers have turned their backs and totally neglected the humanistic needs and problems surrounding farm workers; and
WHEREAS the effects of these problems resulting from the aforementioned events are being felt throughout the nation as well as throughout a starving world;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
1, That the National Conference of LSM go on record as supporting the effort of the growers, the U.F.W.O.C. and the Teamsters Union in their recent efforts
to resolve their differences; and be it further resolved.
2. That the LSM supports in active as well as prayerful ways the new Farm Labor Relations Board of California as well as the spirit in which it was created; and be it further resolved
3. That the National LSM staff forward copies of this resolution to the President of the U.F.W.O.C. and the Teamsters Union. the chairperson of the California Farm Labor Relations Board (Bishop Roger Mahony, Fresno) and the Governor of the State of California.
ACTIONS TAKEN:
The letter containing the copy of the resolution was sent to Governor Brown of California, Bishop Mahoney, the U.F.W.O.C. and the Teamsters Union offices.
