Public Interest Research Group Resolution

Whereas there is evidenced need for consumer protection both on state and national levels, and

Whereas our country is facing environmental crises, with our water, land and air, and the depleting of our natural resources which can be protected by state legislation and controls, and

Whereas human relations is a continuing concern demanding state’s concern, legislation and watch-dogging of existing agencies,

Whereas the PIRG, operating as student-run, student-supported statewide groups are working in the areas of consumer protection, environmental concerns and human relations, therefore be it

Resolved that we, the assembled members of the national LSM conference, support the PIRG across the nation by the following methods:

(1) in states without existing PIRG’s, LSM groups will encourage and support the establishment statewide and on local campuses.

(2) in states where PIRG groups are established those affiliated with LSM will be encouraged to pay the yearly fee of $5; to work with the local and state boards on projects and issues of mutual concern; and lend support on unaffiliated campuses.
