Resolution #7:

Whereas the Lutheran Student Movement has been formed—as stated in the Preamble of its Constitution—“to inform and empower a faithful witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ in the academic community”; and

Whereas large questions of how this witness is given are raised by Key ’73, the Jesus people and our own perceptions of a need for clear commitment in today’s world; and

Whereas the questions of witness are rooted in biblical encounter as the context of action; and

Whereas the Southwest Minnesota District of the A.L.C. has requested our initiative in this, one of our central concerns—for which we are thankful;

Be it resolved that the LSM appoint representatives from St. Cloud, Mankato and other institutions of learning in the area to meet with representatives of the Southwest Minnesota District to plan jointly by encountering together the nature of scriptural witness and evangelism in conjunction with a biblical theologian so that a responsible strategy for witness can be fashioned and a congregational support base for the work can be established; and

Be it further resolved that the LSM Regional Conference in the Southwest Minnesota area be planned by that joint meeting so that the LSM can meet with one or more students sponsored by each congregation and one or more lay or clergy persons from each congregation.  At the Regional Conference the nature of witness can be discussed and a strategy for action devised; and

Be it finally resolved that the LSM initiate similar action in other regions where such an approach or model is possible.
